James Cleverly MP - A short biography
James Cleverly, TD. VR, MP serves as Member of Parliament for Braintree and is a Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party. He was the member of the London Assembly from 2008 to 2016. First elected at the 2015 general election he was re-elected at the snap 2017 election. A staunch Eurosceptic, James supports pro-Brexit campaign "Leave Means Leave".
On 6 October 1991, James was commissioned into the Royal Artillery, Territorial Army, as a second lieutenant. He was promoted to lieutenant on 6 October 1993, to captain on 26 May 1998, and to major on 1 November 2003. Until 2005, he was Officer Commanding of 266 (Para) Battery Royal Artillery (Volunteers). Promoted to lieutenant colonel on 1 March 2015, he is currently based at Central Volunteers HQ Royal Artillery, in Woolwich, London, and is a Staff Officer in the 1st (UK) Armoured Division.
