Nick Timothy — the Conservative candidate to be the MP for West Suffolk — has been working with the brilliant ‘Say No to Sunnica’ campaign to fight the Sunnica solar farm proposal because it would harm residents’ quality of life.
Asked about why he was taking this stand, Nick said: “The proposal — which would be the UK’s largest solar and battery farm — is too big and too close to where people live. It undermines farming businesses — and therefore sustainable, local food production — and would harm the horse-racing industry and village life. I’m concerned about the safety of the flammable and toxic batteries. And it is quite wrong to build a development like this on high-quality agricultural land. Sunnica has behaved disgracefully throughout this process, refusing to engage properly with residents, hiring consultants to make inaccurate claims about the quality of affected land and refusing to allow access to the site in an attempt to prevent more accurate, independent assessments of the land. To top it all off, this is not even a green project, since we know the proposal will generate more carbon emissions than those it saves. It is vital to stop Sunnica now.”
