A teacher for 30 years, Joe has dedicated himself over the years as a public servant, working with young people to develop their knowledge, skills and aspirations.
He is currently a Suffolk County Councillor, West Suffolk Councillor and Haverhill Town Councillor.
For Suffolk County Council, he sits on the Scrutiny Committee. For West Suffolk Council, he sits on the Overview & Scrutiny Committee and for Haverhill Town Council, he is a member of the Leisure & Community, Finance and the Energy and Sustainability committees.
Haverhill is a fast-growing Town and Joe is keen to see initiatives that support sustainable development with improvements to facilities, amenities, opportunities for employment and infrastructure. He is keen to see improved health and mental health facilities and access to services for residents of Haverhill and the surrounding villages. Joe is also keen to see improved transport links with Cambridge.
Joe is active in supporting the community beyond his role as a Councillor. He is Chairman of the Haverhill Show - Haverhill’s largest fundraising event for local charities and good causes and he also is an organiser for the Haverhill Santa charity fundraising event each Christmas. He is also Founder of Keep Haverhill Tidy - a very active and successful litter picking group with over 1000 members making a real difference in the community and encouraging a sense of civic pride. As a Councillor he actively promotes measures that protect the environment, increase biodiversity and tackle climate change. He has successfully worked on Motions banning harmful pesticides such as Glyphosate as well as getting the Haverhill Town Council to support a Motion on the need for increased opportunities for biodiversity and starting the journey for Haverhill to achieve ‘Bee Friendly Town’ status.
